Christine Chan Downer
Legal Advocate
In her position as one of RILA’s legal advocates, Christine regularly meets with clients to walk them through the process of applying for asylum. She joined RILA in 2023 after volunteering from 2020-2022, and her tenure here has been defined by helping clients feel like they are not alone, through both tangible support and prayer and encouragement.
Christine earned her Master of Public Policy degree from Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Prior to joining RILA, she worked for the U.S. Department of State’s Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons and served as a consultant to International Justice Mission. She is motivated by a desire to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God, and her belief that each person is created in God’s image and likeness leads her to celebrate everyone’s inherent dignity, regardless of their immigration status.
